2008: A Year in Review

2008 was a great year for Emily and I and Mommin’ It Up! Em had a baby, I got my eyebrows waxed, and we launched our review blog! In case you missed any of it, I picked out a favorite post from each month of 2008…I hope you’ll join my trip down memory lane and read them all. Happy New Year everyone! We love and appreciate all of you!

January: I scare the meter reader and deal with mystery turd #1

February: Emily has a good laugh at my expense. Or lack of expense.

March: Emily and I hit the brand-new IKEA store in our area. And ALMOST buy the correct items!

April: Emily pops out baby Sammy, and more importantly, I don’t have to wait any longer to know if it’s a boy or a girl. GEEZ.

May: A kid on Kate’s t-ball team makes the best blog fodder. EVAH.

June: Emily smokes crack, and is therefore a much more fun mommy than I am.

July: Mystery Turd 2: Electric Boogaloo! Nancy Drew tries to solve the case.

August: An old lady pisses Emily off. Watch out, Grandma!

September: We got a hurricane in Ohio. It was WEIRD. And windy.

October: I FINALLY wean Sophie at 23 months. Oy.

November: Emily and Oprah are like twinsies. And also 83-year-old ladies are smart.

December: My lady business is perfect. (According to my OB-GYN. I’m just sayin’.)

I had way too much fun putting this together. I must say Emily and I crack me up! So…at least that’s one of us…I hope you all reminisce with me and have a laugh too!

HAPPY NEW YEAR! Let’s make 2009 a great one!

No April Fools Here, Just April THRILLS

Happy April everybody! I for one am glad to kick March Madness out the door. For you see, ever since March 7th, the night of the Great Blizzard of ’08, someone has been sick in my house. First Joshua, then Sophie, then last week Bobby’s butt was kicked by a bronchial infection, and now it’s my turn. I’ve got a sore throat and ears but no fever or anything that could qualify me for a “real” illness, that would necessitate days in bed resting or a prescription that would net me a $25 CVS gift card. Nooo, I’m not that lucky. But anyhoo, we have a lot to look forward to here at Mommin’ It Up in April. So stay tuned!

First of all, Emily is going to thrill us by having another baby!! And more importantly, once it is born she will no longer be able to hide the gender from me! Hallelujah! The suspense is really killing me on that one, but now we have new drama. Will the baby turn on time? Will Emily have a vaginal birth or c-section? Induced or scheduled? OR will her water just break? I’m on the edge of my seat!!

Mid-month, I’m going to be taking an adventure of my own. I’m going out of town for two days. Like, way out. On an airplane. BY MYSELF. With no hubby or babies!! Now since I am a big baby myself and haven’t flown in five years, I am already sweating about whether I will survive the plane ride, and if I DO, how will I EVER make it from the airport to the hotel BY MYSELF with no car??? Such things terrify me!! Can I handle it or will I just crumple up into the fetal position at baggage claim? Since Sophie shows no signs of weaning, will she survive while I am gone? More importantly, will her tempestuousness and longing for Mama KILL my husband while I am gone? Will I be able to pump enough while I am there or will my breasts explode and flood my entire hotel with milk? The cliffhangers are just myriad in numbers, my peeps!

One more April Thrill to look forward to: after Emily pops that baby out, we are going to have a really awesome contest to celebrate! That’s right, it’s a Baby’s Birthday Giveaway and you are gonna LOVE it. I know you will all be racing to leave your comments on the contest post as soon as you see it!

So thanks for sticking with us through the March Madness! But let’s move on to April Thrills together!

Surprise! It’s….

breech!!

Tuesday, I was at my 37 week appointment, and my doctor said “Well, you’re dilated about 1 cm, but I think we’re going to have to do an ultrasound… I’m not sure if what I’m feeling is an ear or a foot.”

Yikes.

Andy’s on spring break, and he and Kate were going to meet me for breakfast, so they were already on the way to the doctor’s office when I called him to tell him the possible news.

As I was waiting, I texted Jenny and my BFF Jess to tell them what was going on. Jess immediately texted back “Are you ok? Is the baby ok?” You know, something concerned and caring. Jenny? Not so much. All she said was “Find out the sex!” Later, she suggested I seek therapy for whatever issues prevented me from finding out, haha.

Anyway, shortly after Andy and Kate arrived, we were taken back for the ultrasound. The look on Kate’s face was priceless – I was watching her more than I was watching the screen! But sure enough, the doctor had felt a foot.

The baby’s head is right between my ribs (which explains the pain I’ve been having in my rib cage). One foot is pointing down and one is up… I don’t know if that qualifies as a footling breech or not – I can’t seem to find the technical term for “baby is doing the splits.”

So, we are going to wait and see if the baby flips, but if not, we’re looking at a c-section during my 39th week. I’ve spent the last week hoping my water would break, and now I’ve got to shift that energy into hoping that I don’t go into labor before then.

It was not exactly what I was expecting to hear yesterday, but I am ok with the situation. I pretty much have to be, don’t I? And of all the things to uncover at this late stage, this is pretty manageable.

The ultrasound tech said everything else looks great, and they think the baby is 7.5 pounds already. The coolest part – we could see the baby’s hair! We could see the hair floating around like the baby was in a swimming pool. It was so neat.

So… one way or another, we are less than two weeks away from meeting this baby and I can’t wait!
