Yesterday Kate and I were strolling through Old Navy (I wanted to try on some shorts, which are ok this year – I checked with Lindsay), when I wandered past the swimming suits. Thinking trying one on might not be quite so painful this year, I grabbed a tankini off the rack.
I was wrong. The pain was excruciating.
Upon further reflection, though, I’ve decided Old Navy wasn’t the best place for a 30-year-old mom to find a suit. They are made for skinny teenagers who don’t mind the flimsy fabric, not those of us who are looking for shape wear we can get wet.
The fact of the matter is, though, that I do want to get a new suit before it’s pool season, but I don’t want to risk Andy putting me on suicide watch the way he did last night. So I figure I need to do some research (and some cardio) before going through it again.
I looked through the Lands End website last night (which btw, you can sort options by body shape, anxiety zones and level of control – now this is more like it), and saw some cute ones, and apparently Spanx has a new swimwear line (I wonder if the suits have a pee hole?) – here’s a cute one.
So what’s your plan for swimwear this year? Because at this point, I’m planning to stay on land.
I’m thinking of going with a swim burka. Surely you can get those on the internetz! Let’s load up on anti-depressants and hit Sears to try on some Lands End stuff!
i just orderd two new land’s end suits. i am excited for them to get here. i will let you know what i think. i am nervous for many reasons but the main one is that i ordered two one piece suits. i haven’t worn (in the 4 times i have been swimming in the last 6 years) anything but a tankini in a long time. i wanted a one piece so i could incorporate swimming into my training and something about swimming laps for exercise in a tankini just didn’t feel right. i hope they work out!
At 33 I think it’s time I choose a tankini but every time I look at them I just cannot do it. Instead I start up P90x or something similar and order from Victorias Secret.
I’m keeping my surf shorts!
And Jenny, you can get a Burkini anywhere but France, they have banned them!
UP
Old Navy suits are for teenagers with the bodies of 12-year-old boys. Definitely NOT designed for someone with larger than A cups. I usually end up going with Victoria’s Secret because Victoria knows how to support the girls.
I just wish that some of the 30 and 40 year old men had some of the same discretion when hitting the pool. Some of them need to put the “Burka” on, but they won’t-they will strut around the pool thinking that everyone there is checking them out!
Land’s End swimsuits have never let me down. Defianetly much better quality and fit!
For this Quad Mama it’s not about the swimsuit it’s about the COVERUP! =) That’s my game plan!
Target had some great suits last year here in Oz. Strong enough straps to hold the girls in, and mix and match tops and bottoms. Good luck!
Lands’ End for sure! Last year I found a tankini with a firm boob area and slightly flowing tummy. The bottoms were pretty normal with a good cut. After 3 kids I will NEVER wear anything that is tight around the stomach.
I actually found something good at Kohl’s. And it happened on a whim – do you ever try things on that other people left in the dressing room? Yeah. Top and bottom were $21 each. Anyways, I’ve been salivating over Land’s End suits for years, but have never been able to get past the price. I felt this suit compared well to the LE stuff. It was still a little steep for my blood, but like you said, a 30-something just can’t buy a cheapie flimsy suit anymore! Plus I’m going to spend the week on the beach with my husband’s family in May. That sitch calls for a serious investment!
My plan is your Old Navy maternity suit and it’s working quite well! 🙂
