The Potty Stall

(Pun pathetically intended.)

Unlike Emily’s motivated and much younger son, my dearest little Sophie is still really not interested in going to the potty. She’ll sit on the big potty with her potty seat, and she accidentally went poop on the potty on Christmas Eve (is there REALLY a Santa Claus!? It about made me believe.), but she has not. once. in. three. months. gone. PEE. Not once! Because she doesn’t WANT to! And this is something I can’t MAKE her do. Ugh.

And she won’t sit on her “little” potty at all. Only the big toilet with her Elmo seat.

So I think the time has come for me to put her in training pants and just let her start wetting herself. *Sigh*. So much maintenance, so much laziness to combat. It’s time for ME to put my big girl panties on and try to get Sophie excited about wearing hers.

I was hoping, since Joshua was difficult to train, that I’d have it easier with this one.

But over the last couple of months, those hopes have seriously gone down the crapper. Unfortunately none of Sophie’s pee went with them.

  1. As long as you have the following supplies: Gerber cotton training undies, lots of laundry detergent, floor cleaner and some tissues to cry out your frustration, I think you are set to act on your plan. ((((hugs)))

Hopefully So will get all wet once or twice, not like it and change her mind about the potty.

  2. same here with my 2 1/2 year old!!! she goes sometimes… totally when she wants to!!! All i can say… i know i won’t be sending her to kindergarten in training pants!!

  3. I hear ya! I’m having difficulty with Meg also (she’ll be 3 in March). I had enough trouble with my son, but I think Meg’s going to give me a rough time too (in her own creative and twisted way). I’ve come to terms with the fact that I’m not a good potty-trainer!

  4. Oh, Jenny. I could have written this post. I have two VERY strong-willed 3-year-olds. I cannot tell you how much my budget wants them out of diapers (I have a 10-month-old in diapers as well). Their 5-year-old brother was in diapers until 3 1/2 and then in pull-ups at night until 4, so I’ve been buying diapers for 3 kids for nearly 3 years (and for 4 kids briefly!). I have decided that I can’t handle the messes from both at once so I will do one at a time in training pants, but I too am having to get past the laziness of not wanting to deal with it! Best of luck to you…

  5. Jenny,
I don’t know if you have tried this or not, are you able to make her excited about the potty? Twenty minutes after she drank we sat on the pot until she peed. If that meant taking in books or pouring a little cold water down on her bottom then that is what we did. We would only sit for about 10 minutes so neither of us would get frustrated, but would make sure we would re-visit the potty every 10 minutes until she went. But once she did go we made a BIG deal about it, danced and sang….just a thought. Charts with stickers are also helpful!

  6. I had major battles with my family on this one….they all told me she should be trained and my belief was when she was ready she would do it on her own. I talked to her about it, she came in the bathroom with me, I showed her movies about it and we read books. I let her pick out her own panties at the store, I let her pick out my panties when we were getting outfits in the am and asked her if she wanted panties today. This went on for months, and then all of a sudden one day she said she wanted to wear panties one morning and never wore another diaper again during the day. She still wears a pullup at night. I used a kitchen timer set for 10 minutes and when it went off I would say I had to pee and we would both run to the bathroom and go potty. She was already used to the timer since I use it alot with letting her know in 5 minutes when the timer goes off it is time to eat, play with mommy etc…I did the charts with stickers every time she tried she got one sticker and every time she peed or pooped she got a handful!!! She had a poop accident the first two days, no pee accidents the first 2 days though. The third day she had a pee accident more because I was on the fone than her though. It all went pretty smoothly and only a handful of accidents here and there over the past almost year!!!!!(less than 10) I would wear the timer when we went to high excitement places like chuck e cheese and when it went off she would go to the bathroom without a fight and no accidents!! BTW, when someone asked me when I was going to start training her, my response was always “If she isn’t potty trained, I won’t have to fight the boys away. Maybe when she is 30 I’ll start” LOL!!!!!
