Oh, hi! Emily and I have been a little busy this week. Have we mentioned that we are going to the Mom 2.0 Summit TOMORROW!! sponsored by Lands’ End? Oh, we have? Well, right now we are currently in preparation frenzy – you know, doing all those things moms have to do to make sure everything doesn’t go to hell in a hand basket when we leave town, and getting ready to be off work for a few days, too. Also, we have to go to bed at 7 tonight because we have to get up at 3:30 a.m. to be at the airport by 5 a.m. Eeeek! But, we are, of course, SO EXCITED about our trip!
The most wonderful thing about being sponsored by an awesome brand like Lands’ End is that we get to show off their products by wearing them all weekend long! We’ll be posting our outfits on our Facebook page throughout the conference, but today I’m giving you a sneak peek of my fabulous outfits via my Pinterest board here.
Make sure and click through to see all my dresses, jeans, shoes, handbags, and accessories I’ll be showing off!
I absolutely adore everything, of course. The fit and quality are phenomenal, and guaranteed from Lands’ End as usual. Can’t wait to hear which outfit you like best! Leave me a comment! And check back tomorrow for a peek at Emily’s board!
Eeep! Exactly one week from now Emily and I will be on our way to our very favorite social media conference, the Mom 2.0 Summit, thanks once again to our amazing and generous sponsor, Lands’ End. To say we are excited would be the understatement of the year. We are looking forward to hanging out with each other, wearing fabulous clothes, meeting up with some of our bloggy BFFs, connecting with some great brands we hope to work with, and learning a ton to help us along our bloggy way. Last year’s Mom 2.0 was pretty life-changing for both of us and we can’t wait to see what’s in store for us in beautiful Laguna Niguel, California next week.
But before we can start the fun, though, we have to get there. And getting there involves me doing one of my least favorite things – flying. And one of Emily’s least favorite things – flying with me. But little does she know that this year’s super-long plane trip is going to be oodles of fun. Best ever! Why, you ask? Let me count the ways. Specifically, let me count all five ways.
5. I hurt my back in January and it just won’t get better. I start physical therapy the day before we leave. Sitting is one of the very worst things for it, so I’m sure my normal sunshiney personality will be, um, just BURSTING forth after sitting for four hours. Also, I’m going to wear a Ben Gay patch on my back to help alleviate the pain so I will smell awesome. Emily will spend the whole flight breathing in the comforting menthol vapors of my geriatric pain aid. No more cozying up to a strange elderly passenger on the plane to get your menthol fix! I’ve got that nursing home smell right here.
4. I also hurt my tailbone and it flares up on and off. This week it’s ON! So I am going to spend the whole flight trying to sit on one butt cheek which means I’ll be leaning into Emily for four hours straight. She loves getting cozy with me (and everyone, let’s face it, she’s a hugger.) so I know she’s already giddy about this.
3. Due to the conditions mentioned in #4 and #5, and thanks to my new doctor who actually listened to me and tried to help with the problem, I have drugs. A few different kinds. This is bound to make the flight more enjoyable for not just Emily, but everyone on board.
2. I’ve been working on a pep talk to give Emily about not being socially awkward at the conference. So far I’ve got it timed at about 3 hours and 32 minutes, so it will take up most of the flight. This way she won’t get bored, and will be really motivated to win friends and influence people when we get off the plane. Part of this is teaching her and rehearsing a comedy bit we can do when we meet someone, you know, to really impress them with our wit (if they can stop gawking at our beauty). YOU’RE WELCOME, cousin!
1. I’ve had “Call me Maybe” in my head for about two days. It typically has a 10-day life span so Emily is going to get a *real treat*. I only know like two lines so I think I’ll probably throw in my funky arm-dance moves and make up verses that apply to the conference. Hey, I just met you, and this is crazy, but here’s my biz card, tweet me maybe? Ooh, and here’s one for my favorite stalkee, Bossy: Before you came into my life, I stalked you so bad, I watched you so bad, and now I know that, you like your coffee black…
Well there ya have it, T-minus seven days and counting, cousin! So brace yourself start getting PUMPED UP! I don’t want to over-excite you so I won’t tell you what else (besides our comedy intro bit) I have planned for you AT the conference. But don’t worry, you’ll love it. Have I ever led you astray?
Like we um, “mentioned” yesterday, Emily and I headed down to Cincinnati to Paul Brown stadium, home of the Bengals to meet one Nicholas Scott Lachey, entertainer extraordinaire. Nick is working with one of our favorite brands EVER, Tide, on their “Show Us Your Colors” campaign with the NFL. Since Nick is a HUGE Cincy sports fan, it’s a great campaign for him. If you go to Tide’s FB page (linked above) and click on the Show Us Your Colors tab, you can upload a pic of yourself in your favorite NFL team’s colors and be entered to win a trip to Super Bowl XLVII. So go do that! AFTER you read the rest of this facscinating post, of coouuurse.
What we really wanted from Nick was not to embarass him with inappropriate questions, but rather to use our sparkling personalities and feminine wiles to make him love us and THEN confront him about why he STOOD EMILY UP for lunch two years ago. In our minds, he’d end up on his knees begging Emily for forgiveness. Possibly, he’d produce a bouquet of flowers out of nowhere for Emily. Maybe even declare his undying devotion. Something like that!
So, what actually happened is that Emily and I got to sit down with Nick, just the three of us, in a really, casual, relaxed environment – and we had a nice little chat. Nick totally acted like just a regular guy, and not a “celebrity”. We really felt like we were just talking to someone we’d met out and about! (Though we don’t normally meet hot guys and strike up convos with them when we’re out and about – FYI.) We talked about his new baby boy Camden and his roots in Cincinnati and we even found out that Nick’s dad is from the Dayton area and that Nick spent time here as a kid! And then after he divulged that little factoid, Emily was all…
“Speaking of Dayton…I was supposed to have lunch with you in Dayton two years ago and it never happened.”
I gotta tell you guys, I was rather proud of Em in that moment. I wasn’t sure she’d have the cajones to bring it up!
She then went on to let Nick know that she’s a true stalker and that she entered that contest to have lunch with him every darn day! (I think at this point, Nick began inching backward a little bit…)
Believe it or not, Nick was really gracious even though Emily was like a rabid woman scorned and began shooting red stalker death rays out of her eye. (Just kidding, she was, to my disappointment, the model of decorum.) He totally knew and remembered what she was talking about. He confirmed what the radio station had told Emily, that the ultimate cancellation of the event was due to his parting ways with his record label. And he was rather sorry that the record folks led Emily on for ten months! He was all, “Let’s go get a croissant and break some bread together so I can make it up to you!” (Wait, Em? Was he asking you out??)
So after THAT awkwardness, we chatted a few more minutes about the work he’s done with Cincinnati Children’s hospital, his new lullaby CD he’s recording for his son, and the fact that he and his wife Vanessa plan to move back to the good old Cincy area and raise their kids here by the time they’re in school. Oh, and we also talked about this guy:
Before we left, Nick gave us picture of himself and his baby boy Camden wearing their Bengals team colors and he signed mine “To Jenny: now that I’ve met you I don’t know how I’m going to go back to my real life. Your wit and charm far outshadow that of your stalker cousin’s, but it’s nice of you to let her hang out with you. Also, you’re totally hot. Stay classy. Love, Nick. P.S. Isn’t my baby cute?”
It’s kind of hard to read his writing but I’m pretty sure that’s what it says.
All in all, Nick was pretty awesome. I think Emily’s really sorry for being so mean to him two years ago after he left her at the lunch counter. And you know what else? I have a feeling, just a feeling, that Nick and the Supercousins have not seen the last of each other!
