The First Last Day

In September, I told you all about Sophie’s first day of preschool.  And tomorrow, it will be her last day.

Well, her first last day, anyways.  Since she has a fall birthday, she will have two years of preschool. Thank God!  My heart literally hurts at the thought of kindergarten!

Sophie has changed a ton this year.  I mean a huge, huge change.  She already knew her ABCs and 123s, shapes, and colors, and all that academic stuff, but she was S-H-Y at the beginning of the year. She didn’t want much to do with the other kids.  Now, she is Miss Preschool Social 2011, and introduces herself to everyone that looks friendly at the park or the mall play place.  And, she who was once very protective of her personal space now enjoys invading others’, like she did to Andrea’s little guy Andon at our Tide Stain Release event on Sunday.

Poor Andon had no choice in the matter!

I could not be more proud of my little girl.  She has had a great year, made so many friends, and really picked up some great social skillz.  Not to mention cutting and pasting and drawing and writing her name and all that good stuff.

Sophie girl, I don’t know what I am going to do with you all summer!  But I sure am glad I got the gift of watching you become a big girl this year.  I love you SO much, and I LOVE being your mommy!

Deep Purple Shame

Since Emily posted her shame on the internetz yesterday for the whole wide webz to see, I thought I’d reciprocate with a little shame of my own.  You see…

I love you, you love me, and Sophie loves this guy:

I really don’t know how it happened.  Ok, well, yes I do.  It happened because the child can expertly navigate a Netflix menu and I was having one of those days when I needed a Mountain Dew and a Cadbury Creme Egg and I wasn’t as vigilant on my annoying show policing as I should have been.

And now, Sophie is completely enamored of Barney.  They are like, BFF.  She thinks he is super-dee-duper, and she feels the same way about those other dinorsaurs he hangs with, including the creepy orange one.  AND!  She knows all the kids names from every episode.  She has also taken to asking to be able to search Netflix to see if there are any new Barney’s she hasn’t memorized yet.

Barney-mania has really gotten out of hand, but here’s the really shameful part.

I don’t care that much.

She is learning lots from the songs, and it’s so cute to hear her singing them! SO CUTE.

So as long as I keep my distance from the TV, don’t listen when Barney’s talking, and don’t look directly at the tv and see the high-waisted pants all the kids are dressed in, it’s not too bad.

And I’ll be honest, I would rather Soph be obsessed with ye olde purple dinosaur than with the whiny bald guy ANY DAY!

Because this guy (who is also on Netflix):

makes me want to gouge out my eardrums.

And I am not ashamed to admit that at ALL!

The Yogi wears pajamas

Ever since I begrudgingly began exercising to lose this last bit of baby weight (and by bit I mean massive amount of fat below my bellybutton), Sophie has started to want to exercise as well. Monkey see, monkey do, I guess!  She does her best to get in my way while I do Pilates, and she’s really into the Wii Fit Plus.  She’s even begun exploring lots of Wii Fit activities that I would never dream of doing!  Which is why, when I came downstairs after taking a shower a couple of days ago, I found her in her piggy pajamas doing this:

That’s right, it’s the Tree pose in Yoga.

And apparently, it’s a little tiring after awhile!

(Not that I would know personally.)

Joshua has also gotten on the Yoga train!  He is actually doing it as I type this. Crazy kids! Next they’ll both be wearing caftans and going by Native American names.

We’ve been having lots of fun Wii Fitting each night as a family – I am quite fab at the Hula Hoop, Bobby excels at the Obstacle Course, Sophie rocks the Tilt City, and Joshua loves Ski Jumping.

What are your favorite games on Wii Fit?

And don’t say Yoga!
