Last Round!

Hey, remember my friend E? Maybe you’ve been praying for her as she has battled Ovarian Cancer.  Maybe, like hundreds of others, you gave E five to help her financially.  Maybe you’ve now become addicted to her blog. (Because it’s really awesome and funny!  Her kids do incredible stuff to her house during naptime. Really.)

Remember my friend E?  She’s pretty unforgettable!  And so is her sweet family.

Yesterday, E started her LAST round of intensive chemo!!  A week from today, that round, and these months of intensive hair-stealing, nauseating, depression-causing chemo will be O-V-E-R.  Can I get a “WOOT WOOT”?  She’s made it through by God’s grace and her cancer numbers are looking great – down in the single digits.

One of the amazing things about E is that through her blog she has let all of us see the good days and bad days she has as she goes through this. She is real. She is sharing her fears and her failures.  She is sharing her joys and her successes.  She is sharing her hard stories.  And that’s how we learn from each other.  We don’t learn much from a “brave face”.  Thanks for being real, my friend.

Two days before she finishes this round, she will celebrate her 39th birthday.  Will you join me in praying that she is able to celebrate many, many more here on earth with her friends and family?

We know God’s plan is perfect, and we pray it includes the desire of our hearts, that E is cured of ovarian cancer.  That’s what we’re asking for. Will you ask that with us?

Thank you for praying.  Thank you for caring.  Thank you for giving!

I can’t wait to post pictures of her “chemo’s-over” party!

Love you, E!

LOLLIEpalooza!

Today is a really exciting day here in our city, in my life, and in my BFF’s life.  My best friend Luanne, a.k.a. “Lulee” is opening her own Lollie-selling kiosk at one of our local malls, the Mall at Fairfield Commons.   I first told you about her business, Lulee’s Lollies, a few months ago, and it has been doing great!

In no small part because, people, it’s cake mixed with icing dipped in chocolate ON A STICK!!!!

And also in no small part because Luanne is a hard-working, intelligent, savvy businesswoman and entrepreneur.

Here are some of her beautiful creations:

And Emily and I have already told you about the amazing lollies she did for Sophie’s birthday and for Kate and Sam’s birthday, but in case you need a refresher, click here and here.

The lollies are adorable, true, but the best thing about them is the TASTE. They are SOOOO scrumptious. Some of Lulee’s flavors include: Red Velvet, Peanut Butter Chocolate, Carrot Cake, Strawberry, Key Lime, Butter Pecan, Lemon, and my personal favorite…”Man Candy” – which is chocolate cake and BACON. BACON! I kid you not! Sounds crazy but it is the best thing I have ever tasted in my life.

Everyone needs to have a “Man Candy” lollie before they die.  Even if you are not a man. (But what a great father’s day gift!! I bought them for Sophie’s male preschool teacher for an end-of-sch00l gift. I am pretty sure I am the favorite parent now!)

Oh, and speaking of gifts…Lulee’s Lollies has the CUTEST graduation money-holder Lollies!  A little guy or gal with a graduates cap on that has a place to hold cash – ’cause you know that’s all graduates want anyways!

SOOO…I am blabbering, BUT the bottom line is…Lulee’s Lollies is going to the MALL!  And if you are in the Dayton area, you can get Lulee’s Lollies at the mall starting at 10 a.m. TODAY!  A bunch of my friends and I are going to break in the kiosk! 🙂  But the real excitement is Lulee’s official grand opening this weekend, starting Friday June 3 at 10 am and continuing until Sunday the 5th at 6 pm.  During that time, Lollies are Buy Two Get One Free!!! So go GETCHA SOME!

I cannot tell you how proud I am of Luanne.  Ten short months ago she sat me down and told me what she was going to do with Lulee’s Lollies.  I was like, “You’re going to do what?  You don’t even bake!”  But she got an idea, and worked her butt off to make it work, to make her product unique and excellent and to provide customer service that is second to none.  If you are at all able, please come out to the Mall at Fairfield Commons and get yourself some Lollies this weekend!  You won’t regret it.  The Lulee’s Lollies kiosk is on the lower level between Express & Abercrombie, very near the information desk.

See you at the mall, everybody!

For more info, check out Lulee’s Lollies website (where you can order online) or Facebook page!

Girls’ Night

Am I the only one who gets Hanna Montana stuck in her head when I see that phrase? “It’s a girls’ night, I’m alright, without you…” Sing it with me now.

*ahem*

Tonight (or last night, by the time you’re reading this), I did something I hadn’t done in a long, long time. I went to dinner with my girlfriends. Seriously I can’t remember the last time I did that! It was nothing fancy – just Max & Erma’s and half of us (including me) had a kid tagging along, but still. It was so nice to just sit around and talking, laughing, gossiping and of course eating with women I enjoy so much.

I felt so refreshed afterwards that I made a pact with myself to do it more often – and what do you know, I’m going to have the chance to do it again this coming Monday! And you’re all invited!

Jenny & I are hosting a One2One member meet up at the Dayton Mall Barnes & Noble this Monday, May 23. The fun starts at 6:15 in the cafe, where we’ll hang out with each other and have a private meet-and-greet with Kaira Rouda, author of Here, Home, Hope. After the meet-and-greet, we’ll listen to Kaira talk about her life and her novel, and then she’ll be doing a book signing.

Written with a bouncy sense of humor, this lighthearted novel delights the reader while delving into serious issues such as eating disorders and addictions, typical problems of middle-class America. Rouda will touch readers who can relate to the frustration of being sidelined on the field of life, never allowed to play and always needed behind the bleachers, until finally experiencing the joy of participation.

I can’t wait to read it!

And I also can’t wait to hang out (and drink coffee and eat cake pops – courtesy of the One2One Network) with Jenny, our friends, and Dayton-area Mommin’ It Up readers!

If you need a girls’ night, please join us at the Dayton Mall Barnes & Noble at 6:15 p.m. on Monday, May 23!
