What doesn’t kill you makes you want to die

kid conspiracy

Sunday I was awakened at 10 til 4 IN THE MORNING by Joshua coming into our  bedroom and saying “Jonah’s throwing up!”

Of course he is. Because I’ve had the cold from hell for a week and I cannot control the coughing at night, so why would he throw up during the day when I could actually take care of him without hacking up a lung?  As I was deliriously bathing Jonah and Bobby was deliriously stripping the boys’ beds of pukey sheets (because of course he got it on Joshua’s bed, too), Bobby looked at me and said, “Why do our kids ALWAYS have to start throwing up in the middle of the night? They never START throwing up in the daytime. If they throw up in the daytime, it’s just a continuation of something that started in the middle of the night.”

This morning, as I groggily moved to the coffee pot, his words popped back into my head, and I tried to think. Think, think, think, about when the kids had started a pukefest pre-bedtime.

In my ten years of parenting I can recall TWO TIMES. TWICE. Two whole times out of eleventybillion that they didn’t start off a pukefest during the wee hours. Once was when Joshua was in kindergarten, and we had to go pick him up because he threw up in class (first kindergartener of the YEAR to blow chunks in class. WINNER!!) and the second time was in December when Sophie and I were at a basketball game and Jonah started hurling all over Bobby about 7 p.m. If only he could’ve held it in a few. more. hours! Just to torture us as we tried to care for him!

Jonah is totally fine today, and has had no more instances of pukage, hallelujah! He’s been running around happy like a maniac and I will confess I’ve let him indulge in a few more of his favorite YouTube music videos than I normally would because I’M SO TIRED from being up in the middle of the night and then sleeping EVER so lightly (with Joshua in our bed because we only had one set of clean sheets, natch) so that I’d hear Jonah if he got sick again.

So yeah. I think the little boogers hold it in until it’s prime sleeping time, because WHEEEEEE being up in the middle of the night is AWESOME and mom and dad being too tired to care what happens during the day is AWESOMER!

Kids. I tell you, the method to their madness is positively Machiavellian!

What do you think? Are your kids in on the conspiracy too, or are mine just “special”?

My Skin Care Routine and #RoCAcademy Giveaway!

I am participating in a skin care review campaign with the Motherhood and RoC, for which I am being compensated. All opinions on the product are my own.

Skin care is very important to me, y’all. Because as I wrote many years ago, you only get ONE face, and you gotta take care of it! And as Emily may have mentioned several times, I REALLY LOVE MY FACE.

Jennysfacecollage
I think Emily exaggerates when she talks about how much I love my selfies.

So ever since I turned 30 (a really long time ago, sigh), I’ve been taking great care of my skin. Every morning I use a cleanser and a day moisturizer with SPF, and every night I cleanse again and then put on a night moisturizer so my skin can be repaired while I get my byoo-tay sleep. I also use an eye cream morning and night to help with dark circles, puffiness, and fine lines around my eyes.

Listen, people, no one is ever CUTTING or sticking a NEEDLE into my face! So I am taking care of my skin to keep the wrinkles at bay!

Recently I got to review some RoC skin care products, and I am happy to say they fit perfectly in with my established skin care routine! I first started using RoC’s resurfacing cleanser last year after I got a sample at Mom 2.0, and I loved it. So I was excited to review their whole line of anti-aging skin care products! I’m also learning some really helpful information about skin care from RoC’s online resource, RoC Academy, and  I’ll be sharing all my new skin care smarts with you in another post later this month. In the meantime, check out my video review below, then stay tuned for a giveaway!

SO far I am LOVING these products and what they are doing for my skin! I’m really excited to share them with you!

RoC Collage
You can get these fabulous products at drug and grocery stores, including Walgreens!

Some of my fellow RoC Academy skin care cadets and myself will be hosting a #RoCAcademy skin care Twitter party  on Thursday, April 3 at 1 pm EST and I hope you’ll join us! We’ll have a board-certified dermatologist on hand to answer your skin care questions, and of course, lots of great prizes! Here’s the invite so you can get all the info you need and RSVP!

And speaking of prizes, I’m giving away a fabulous RoC Skin Care basket to one lucky commenter on this post! Simply comment below with a skin care question for me and I’ll choose a winner at random. I’ll also choose a couple of the questions to answer in my next post.

The contest will be open until 6 pm EST on Friday, March 21st. Can’t wait to hear all your skin care questions!

Now go take care of your FACE!

Mission to Mars

overthemoon

Many years ago, there was a TV show called Veronica Mars. I didn’t start watching it until season 2, and then when it was cancelled with a cliffhanger finale at the end of season 3, I WAS BEREFT. Beee-reft, people.

When all the seasons came out on DVD, I rented them and watched it from the beginning. And then a couple years later, when it was on Netflix (it’s not anymore), I watched it AGAIN.

BECAUSE it’s SOSOSOSOSOSOSO GOOD!

And if you’re not a Marshmallow, and you don’t know what I’m talking about, I’m sorry. Because you are MISSING OUT!

Every time I’ve watched these three glorious seasons of Veronica Mars, I’ve had the same feeling of total loss at the end…when the series ends with NO RESOLUTION because they didn’t know it was going to get cancelled. I’m just as sad at the end every time, even though I’ve seen it before, because it’s THAT GOOD!!

Unless you live under a rock, you know that last year the cast and creator of Veronica Mars made a fabulous Kickstarter video and campaign that raised over $2 million dollars (the goal) in less than 24 hours to fund  a Veronica Mars movie. FINALLY!! We Marshmallows will get our resolution! The project ultimately raised almost $6 million, and the movie opens THIS FRIDAY!! I bought my tickets weeks ago.

In anticipation of this great event, my husband bought me all three seasons of Veronica Mars on DVD for my birthday – and he is watching them with me!! He’s never seen it. I am happy to report that he loved the series every bit as much as I do.

BECAUSE IT’S TOTALLY AWESOME!

We finished watching it last night…I am happy to report that Bobby was indeed as bereft as I was when it was over. Fortunately, he’s not going to have to wait SIX YEARS for resolution!

Because Friday night, Veronica Mars and her witty crime-solving friends are back. And I’m EXCITED!!

So tell me friends, are you a Marshmallow? Or do you think I’m a crazy person?
