WFMW: Easy Eyeshadow

For many years, I was, like millions of women, eyeshadow-challenged. Then, I met my BFF Luanne and she showed me the eyeshadow light. It doesn’t have to be that hard, ladies!! Now, all I do for an every day look is put on two colors. I put a light color on my browbone and my lashline, and a darker color in the middle – and voila! Here is a picture of my eye, with eyeshadow on. (I hope it doesn’t creep you out that it’s just my big ol’ EYE!)

I personally use Mary Kay eyeshadow and I think it is the bomb-diggity, but this technique should work with any eyeshdow as long as you have got the color placement right. That’s light on top and pbottom, dark in the middle. I use Mary Kay Crystalline on top & bottom and either Lucky Penny (which is what I have on in the picture) or Sugarplum, depending on whether I am wearing warm or cool colors that day.

So, Luanne’s eyeshadow tips work for me! Now, it is obvious from the picture that I DO need eyebrow help, but I am a big ol’ scaredy cat, especially after Emily’s experience with waxing! So, I am going to head over to Rocks in My Dryer to see if anyone has posted a Works for Me Wednesday on that topic! Go see if you can find the answer to anything you need help with!

  1. Eyebrows are back to natural again, anyway. so I say don’t sweat it. This comes from a sephora-addicted-professional-makeup-artist (me)…of course, I’m known to do all the crazy colors seen in Nylon and Italian Vogue on my eyes, which can sometimes illicit a gasp of shock from my husband…
I’m not sure where this comment is going!

  2. Thanks for the tip! You know, I’ve been skittish about using eye-shadow since I poked my right eye out. Although, now I get to wear this really cool patch!

  3. Good stuff. I just wish I had known about this sooner. I mean, I have been doing dark/light/dark not light/dark/light/. I’m sure I looked foolish ,but I guess not many people feel comfortable telling a 190lb man that his eye color is all wrong…..

  4. you men are scaring me….but so is that very close EYE shot 🙂

Thanks for comfirming to me that my Mary kay make up training is not out of date!!!!!

  5. If I can endure waxing and plucking, then ANYone can, especially a brave Mommin’ It Up mommy!

I got mine waxed ONCE in the 10th grade, and the shape was great. Since then, all I have had to do is maintain it. So, what I do now is pluck, using a pair of NICE Tweezerman tweezers. Trust me, spending a few extra bucks on a quality pair is well worth it. It makes it much easier to grab those little suckers, and much less painful also. I do it daily when I apply my makeup, that way I stay on top of it, and don’t have to contend with a hot bushy mess eventually.

But…be warned!! Once you start, you can’t really stop. For one, it’s kind of addicting, and for another, it looks like a porcupine. Not cute!

Bottom line: tweezing isn’t for the faint of heart, but it IS well worth it!

  6. I have always feared I’d look like a street walker if left to put on my own makeup. I love getting makeovers, but am too scaredy cat to buy my own supplies. But I get regular brow waxes and it takes the pressure off doing the rest of my face up! Your eye looks great!

  7. Waxing is very minimally painful. Especially if you do it regularly. You have birthed a child!!! Just get it done.

  8. I for one love your eye shadow and your MK consultant! Truth is, you’d look good in a burlap sack with no makeup on at all. Don’t listen to me…buy that makeup…you gotta have it!!!
Great picture by the way. Love it!
