I know you’ve all been waiting to see the results of our fabled Ikea trip (What’s that? You haven’t been waiting on tenterhooks? I’m shocked!)… it’s taken a while to get all that stuff put together! But the nursery’s finally (almost) ready, so I thought I’d do some before-and-after pics!
Here’s what the baby’s room looked like before…
As you can see, something had to be done! So two trips to Ikea, a whole lot of money and lots of time spent with an allen wrench later, here’s what we’ve got.
I wish that we had painted the walls, but we never got around to it, and given my track record in picking paint colors (Kate’s room is “Bonita Berry,” otherwise known as the color of Dora’s shirt), that may not be a bad thing.
Speaking of that, anyone have a great idea for turning an insanely bright pink Dora room into one we don’t need sunglasses to enter? That will be my next before-and-after post!
Looks FAB! Love the bright oranges!
Kate’s room: it’s not so bad…really. No, really!
Seriously, if you want to lighten it up, you can either do a sheer wash over the pink in a paler shade or sponge paint it/sponge roll it in a paler shade. Test in a corner first!
Hang in!
I like the color of Kate’s room! And I would gladly help you paint it.. polka dots would be an excellent addition.
We have that massage bouncer! I love it – great for newborn to nap in.
Love the transformation. I just adore bright colors.
Yeah, I agree with Marianne. I’d sponge paint something lighter on the top. My sister accidentally painted the kids’ bathroom “crime scene blood red” and I sponge painted a metallic silver over top to mute the sheer intensity of it. It ended up pretty darn cool for two teenage boys. Plus it had the added benefit of being sorta “Scarlet and Grey.”
I had to hunt down a picture for you. Posted it on photobucket:

Looks Great!
My suggestion for the pink room (I have one too) is to paint that sucker with at least on coat of “killz” paint, should cover that pink in one coat, but to be sure use two, then apply your next color of choice. Peace!
I went to Ikea… twice this weekend… and thought of you.
At least I did both trips in the same day.
I have no idea what to do with an insanely bright room–sorry! I’ve been checking to see if baby is here yet–I can’t stand suprises and so i’m dying to know if it’s a boy or girl! And I don’t even know you!
adorable! 🙂
thinking of you, mama. hope you have a wonderful, peaceful birth. 🙂
So cute–the room AND the girl. 🙂 Thanks for sharing your pics. I thought it looked like a lot of fun stuff when I saw it in your cart, but it looks even better in the room! -Julia
It looks wonderful! Can’t wait to see if it’s a little ‘he’ or ‘she’ who will be sleeping in it! 😉
