Yesterday was a pretty exciting day for me… after a lot of debating and internet research and thanks to encouragement from my Twitter peeps to actually pull the trigger, I bought this:
A very cool MacBook. I am so excited I can hardly stand it. It is SO COOL and the only thing I’ve done with it so far is surf the internet (although my husband was up all hours of the night loading his iTunes…). I am anxious to learn all the other cool stuff it does as well!
Unfortunately, after hearing news of my purchase, this is what Jenny looked like.
She told me her envy prevents her from still loving me, but I don’t believe her. On second thought, maybe I do.
Anyway, I am totally clueless about the world of Macs. So tell me, what do I need to know?
I’ll get you my pretty, and your little MacBook too! (evil cackle!)
You guys are too funny!
I *heart* iCal – I color code each person, plus menus, family events, household events. I sync it to my iPhone. Awesome!
Mac’s are awesome! Download Mozilla Firefox. It’s a much easier browser than Safari. And iPhoto? For a basic photo system it’s pretty good. There are also a ton of widgets available for your dashboard; some are pretty cool. There are games and language translators and dictionaries galore. Have fun exploring! You’ll love it! It’ll take awhile to get used to, though.
Oh goodness – that’s a big question. First, let me say you have made the right decision & that macs are the bomb. Second, you need to know…. hmmmm… I got stuck.
I converted from pc’s about 8 years ago, and I will tell you that the transition period is annoying. You’re just not as fast on the new system as you were on your pc. But you’ll learn all the new shortcuts on the mac, and then you’ll be unstoppable! I’d say converting over takes about a month (in terms of your user-savvyness).
I might advise taking a little class at your local mac store– they’re very helpful & free. You’ll learn how to maximize what the mac can do for you, and how to use all the shortcuts and etc. capabilities. There’s a mac store here in Columbus (I don’t think there’s one in Dayton?) – drop me anot if you need a place to stay 🙂

There is a Mac store (MacTown, I think it’s called) on Kingsridge behind the Dayton Mall. LOVE Macs…we’ve always had them and I have them in my classroom too! Good luck!
Jenny’s GREEN & still pretty as can be! lol
Maybe jenny can have visitation rights? On second thought, I wouldn’t leave her alone with the macbook… you may never see it (or her) again.
My IMC director keeps trying to convince me I need to run out and buy a Macbook… keep us updated on how you like it!
There’s also the MacDepot in Kettering. my picture should be right up there with Jenny’s!!! I am currently typing on an eMac, but powerbooks are so great! maybe if i win the lottery! just remember: there’s software out there that will let you use tons of your pc stuff on your mac too ( i don’t think bill gates thought of that one!) iphoto and idvd are the best for moms – fun and easy to make videos, scrapbooks, albums, etc without having to load your stuff across the internet!
I’m still learning how to use my mac, but it’s gotten tons better since my sister passed down her book Switching to the Mac – The Missing Manual. It’s pretty amazing…
I’m considering going with a MAC for my next computer. Do I need to rob a bank? I have no clue what the price range is on them.
Is there anything you can’t seem to do as opposed to your previous PC?
Inquiring minds want to know!
