Giveaway: Recaro ProSport Car Seat

Both times I was pregnant, I researched a number of things… ok, who am I kidding, pretty much everything in the world related to pregnancy and infants. But I put a notable amount of time into figuring out which car seat and stroller to buy. The first time around, with Kate, I was trying to go the, uh, economical route. You know what happens when you buy the cheapest car seats available? You end up buying six million different seats before the kid is finally old enough to drive and/or sit in a vehicle without a safety apparatus. Kate had the infant seat, then the convertible seat (one for each car, of course)… then she hit the height and or weight limit for those before she was old enough to go into a booster, so I had to buy another set of bigger kid car seats… then we bought booster seats… then we finally bought backless boosters.

As you can see, my frugality didn’t exactly save me any money.

Had I known then what I know now, I would have bought exactly two models – the infant carrier and then the Recaro ProSport.

Before Jenny and I were asked to do a review/giveaway for this car seat, I had honestly never heard of Recaro. It’s not a name I’ve ever seen on a baby registry. But, after looking into it a little more, I learned that the company has actually been around for more than 100 years, and during that time has been involved in creating seats in VW Beetles, BMWs, and Porsches. More recently, they’ve applied the technology and science behind the seats they put into luxury cars and race cars to children’s car seats. Recaro’s car seat line includes convertibles, boosters, and the seat Jenny and I had a chance to try out – the ProSport, which is a combination harness to booster seat. The safety features on their seats are unbelievable – here’s how they are described on their website:

Side Impact Protection – RECARO’s Side Impact Protection is designed to distinctly protect 5 vulnerable areas of a child in a side impact collision – their head, neck, face, torso and pelvis.

EPS Foam? – Expanded Polystyrene “EPS” foam absorbs crash force energy through the ProSPORT for added protection.

ErgoShell Structure? – The ProSPORT’s ergonomic shell is designed to offer child occupants the comfort qualities RECARO seats are known for throughout the world.

In addition to the safety features, the Recaro ProSport has a number of extras that make life easier on the parents. The EasyGuide Belt Guides are color coded so you can easily identify the proper belt path and positioning of either the LATCH strap or vehicle seat belt. Also, the EasyAdjust 5-point makes it easy to change the height of the shoulder straps so you don’t have to take the thing apart and re-thread the straps through the back as your child grows. AND, it’s got a push-button LATCH system, which makes me so happy I can’t even tell you. I always have the hardest time getting the clip ones removed from our car. This makes it a snap (even when my husband puts the seat in impossibly tight!).

Of course, they want the kids to love it too. The seat’s ergonomic shell makes it super comfortable, and there is a lot of comfy cushioning in the seat. And get this – there’s built in storage designed to hold snacks, drinks, and electronic devices.

Beyond all that, perhaps the absolute best thing about this car seat is that it eliminates the need to buy another seat ever. Essentially, it will take your child from an infant seat to the driver’s seat.

I am serious! The ProSport is made for kids 20-120 pounds. My husband could have ridden in it to be dropped off at college. The height range is from 27 to 59 inches. My daughter is a seriously tall seven year old, but she’s still got a long way to go before she hits 59 inches!

I also wanted to mention how much I like the wings on the side of the seat, where the kid’s head goes. The primary purpose, of course, is to protect the child’s head in a side-impact crash, but it is also prevents the dreaded head flop when they fall asleep!

Ok, enough rambling from me… let’s get to the important part – how you can win a Recaro seat of your own!

  1. This seat looks really nice. 🙂 I’d love to check one out for my 4 year old twins.

  2. My daughter has maxed out the weight on her infant carrier so we are getting ready to buy a carseat. We love Britax, but I would love to compare them!

  3. I have been searching for a big girl 5 point harnessed seat for my almost 4 year old and this seat would be perfect! I have never heard of it but am checking it out now.

  4. I would like to check it out b/c it would eliminate the need to buy multiple car seats!

  5. This seat sounds awesome! I’m currently expecting my second child. My little girl is six and a half now, so I’ve recently learned that technically all the carseats I bought and saved from her since then are “outdated” – so this would be especially awesome!

BTW – What would you say the standard is for the amount of time a carseat can be used? Is six years really too long…?

    1. Congrats!

I think most car seats have expiration dates printed on them somewhere. At some point, the styrofoam starts to break down – just like with bike helmets!

  6. might need one of these little beauties in the future! it would be great to put away for when the time comes…

  7. Love Love Love the look of this carseat. With a 2 year old who I think gets bigger everyday we are going to face the carseat question again very soon and with tight money and a hubby out of work, this would be an amazing gift! I read your blog everyday and laugh and/or cry right along with you all the way from NY!!! Also having living in NE Ohio for a bit, I can appreciate the references about all things Ohio, especially the weather!

Heading over to fb to leave a comment there too!

  8. Bennett is ready to move out of his infant carrier, so this would be a great fit for us! I love that the weight limits are high, so it should last until he is ready to be out of a carseat!

  9. My son is just about done with his infant seat, so I have been shopping around for his next one. Sounds like this is something to check out!

  10. My best friend is pregnant with her first and she and I have spent hours researching car seats for her little one. And, you’re right – this one looks GREAT! I’d love to win this and give it to her as a baby gift! I know she (and her hubby!) will be excited!

  11. I’d like to try the car seat because my baby is 2 pounds away from outgrowing his infant seat. What a great seat for the future!

  12. I sooo need this carseat! We just had our 3rd (and final) baby girl who is 4 weeks old. Our middle child is almost 8, so our carseats are VERY outdated! This would be so wonderful to win! Thanks 🙂

  13. We’ve gotten graco carseats for our son as he’s grown, and have been happy with them. I would love to have one carseat – post infant carrier – to use for our next one – due any day.

  14. I would love this carseat with 3 kids still in carseats this would come in handy as they all fit in that weight and height range.

  15. In many ways my story is just like yours…although I have purchased very expensive car seats for each stage so far. I have purchased a Britax Chaperone which my son grew out of before he turned 1…now we have a Britax Advocate which I am now realizing will not last him till he is ready for a regular booster. I would love to win a car seat that can get us through the rest of the stages of car seat/booster seats and this seat looks like the perfect one to get us through till he can sit with in the regular seat!! I would LOVE to win!!

  16. My son is about to outgrow his infant seat and this looks like the perfect seat to move into!

  17. I would love to have this- it’s hard to find great safety features WITh comfort, especially for the long car trips.

  18. I would like to check out this car seat because I am always looking for the most efficient and safe carseat for my little munchkin……

  19. I love our Britax, but we’re going to need 2 more for the twinsies in about a year, so I’d love to compare the Recaro. The Britax is pretty pricey, so it would be nice to find an alternative since we’ll be getting 2. Or actually probably 4, for mamaw’s car.

  20. this looks excellent! i’ve been looking for a combo carseat/booster for my 2-year-old twins.

  21. I would love to check this out. I have an 18 month old and haven’t been able to find a good car seat at a decent price yet.

  22. Well I trust this car seat if you like it LOL. I am in MAJOR need of a new car seat. With 4 kids I am RUNNING out of car seats QUICKLY. and need one soon. And well I might kiss you both if I win.
Well I love you both anyways…

  23. My baby is about the same age as Jenny’s baby boy. We are going to need to buy a car seat and this looks like a good one.

  24. This seat looks awesome! AND comfy! I would love to have one of these for my kiddos. Thanks!

  25. My almost 5-year old is still too little for a booster seat, so this would be PERFECT! 🙂
