Skype ya later

This is me and my friend Gina, circa 1999.

We improved with age, I promise.

Anyway, Gina and I met on the first day of college. We lived across the hall from each other. For the three years after that, we always lived within about 10 yards from one another. That was 14 years ago.

For the last 11 years, though, we haven’t lived in the same state. Right now, we live about 6 hours apart.

Fortunately, we’ve never been closer.

We’re always texting, emailing or skyping. It’s the only way I’ve seen her son! It’s sad but true – he’s six months old and I’ve yet to see him in person. I feel close to him, though, because I can see him on Skype.

I’ve been using Skype for a while, but I recently upgraded to a premium account. One of the coolest things about the upgrade is the ability to have group video chat. That way, Gina and I can keep in touch not just with each other, but with both all of our college friends.

It definitely beats the AIM we used to use back in our college days.

Gina and I had one conversation on Skype that I’ll never forget. It was on Inauguration Day in 2009. I was home sick from work (really, I was sick, I swear!) and she was somewhere she couldn’t watch Barack Obama being sworn in as president… so, we Skyped, and I held the computer up to my television screen, so she could see it. It was a historic day, and I’m glad we got to share it – even from a few states away!

Plus, the headset makes me feel super cool.

How many embarrassing pictures of myself can I put in one post?

How do YOU use Skype to build deeper connections with your friends and families?

It’s time to say more and stay human. It’s time for Skype.

Working Out in Russell Athletics

Have you seen this? If not – it’s worth a look.

30 minutes of exercise a day – that’s the best thing we can do for ourselves and our bodies. Easy enough, right?

In theory. In practice, I find it tougher. The best way I’ve found to work exercise into my day is during my lunch break. I’m lucky because my employer offers free group fitness classes at noon, and I love them.

When I was invited to try out some of Russell Athletic‘s workout clothes, I was all about it!

One of the outfits I checked out was this one, labeled on their website as “Runner’s Delight.” Needless to say, I am not a runner, but I love this outfit anyway! The Mid-Support Racerback Tank has a built-in mid-support bra with removable cups and Dri-Power technology.

The Semi-Fit Performance Capri pants also have the Dri-Power technology. I particularly love one feature about these pants – the hidden zippered pocket in the back. A small detail, for sure, but it’s so nice to have a place to keep a car key, money, etc.

The other outfit I was sent consisted of the Dri-Power 360 V-Neck Tee.

I like this shirt a lot. It is soft cotton, but still has the moisture-wicking properties. I also really liked the fit – I felt like it was designed for grown ups. It’s a little longer than some work out shirts, and it’s got a cute, fitted cut without being tight and clingy.

I wore that with the Cotton Stretch Capri.

These are super comfortable and perfect for walking or yoga, or just lounging around the house.

Like I said, sometimes it’s tough to fit exercise in – but I’ve found that having clothes that are comfortable, perform well, and that I feel good in really helps my motivation level.

New & improved Huggies – for the win!

So, recently Mom Central asked me to try out new & improved Huggies Snug & Dry diapers & Huggies wipes.  And I was all, “well, ok, I like free diapers and wipes, why not?”  To be honest, I was interested in drying the Snug & Dry because in the past they haven’t worked as well for Jonah in the leak department.  Jonah wakes up wet a LOT in the morning, he just goes pee-pa-pee-pee alllll night long apparently.  Since I can usually get a good deal  on Huggies with coupons, I would always get the Huggies Little Movers, they seemed to do a better job keeping him dry.  Sooo anyhoo, the big challenge facing the new Snug & Dry is: could they actually keep Jonah snug & dry all  night?  Or would he wake up cold & wet?

Jonah having some diaper time before bed

Well, the results are in.  The new “leak lock” thing they’ve got going on is working! The new & improved Snug & Dry lived up to their name!

Now, on to the Huggies wipes.  I have always loved Huggies wipes, so I’m not sure what they had to improve upon.  But, since I’ve been letting Jonah go at it with a spoon at mealtimes, I certainly had several sticky situations (non-diaper related) to try them out with!

Jonah covering himself with yogurt. I mean, learning to use a spoon.

I liked the Huggies wipes. They did a great job getting all the sticky, thick yogurt off of Jonah. I am not sure how they are better than the old Huggies wipes, but maybe that is just because I already loved the old ones, beats me.

Anyhoo,  if you didn’t formerly love these products, definitely give them a second look!  Or check Huggies out on Facebook and Twitter @Huggies while you’re at it.
