Summer Fashion Finds

I’ve been on the lookout for new, fun items to add to my summer wardrobe – and to Kate’s, because she’s apparently grown a foot since fall! – so I was excited to have the opportunity to review a new item for each of us.

Let’s start with my girl… she got to check out a dress from the new Calypso St. Barth line at Target.

Kate loved this dress from the moment she put it on – can’t you tell by her face that she thinks she looks great? I think this dress will be perfect for going out to dinner while we’re on vacation at the beach (and for plenty of other things too, of course). It’s so cute (and priced right at $19.99) that I plan to buy a matching dress for Kate’s baby cousin! The Calypso St. Barth girls’ collection offers dresses, skirts, tops, accessories and shoes in fun, splashy colors. Check it out online or in the store.

As for me, I got to check out some fantastic shoes – Danya from Naturalizer.

I. Love. These. Shoes. Seriously, they are my new favorite pair. I love the look, first of all, but I also love how they feel. My feet are whacky and I always end up with terrible blisters (I think they must be shaped funny or something!) but I wore these shoes out on a date with my husband last weekend and they were incredibly comfortable all night long. As we were getting ready to leave, Kate looked at me and said “Are those shoes going to hurt your feet?” and I said “Unbelievably, no!” I love the strap in the back that makes the shoe fit securely on my foot – I think that helps alleviate the blister situation. And did I mention that I love how the look? I wore them last week with skinny jeans and it was perfect for a night out. They’d also work well with a dress, skirt or capris! They will definitely be my go-to pair of shoes this summer.

What are some looks you like this season?

Scott Naturals Test Drive – Week 4

We’re now in week four of the Scott Naturals 4 Week Test Drive, where they’d like everyone try their new products out for four weeks and save some trees. Also, they’ve pledged to give $1 to the National Wildlife Foundation for every person who clicks on this link. All you have to do is click, and they’ll donate up to $25,000!

I’ve checked out their products and I will say that they don’t seem like “recycled” products – they are just as good as the real deal. Which is good, because really, who wants scratchy toilet paper? No one! I also go through a LOT of paper towels, so by using Scott Naturals I don’t feel bad when I reach for another one.

If everyone used Scott Naturals for just four weeks, we would save two million trees during that time. And don’t forget, if you take the 4-Week Test Drive Challenge, you’ll be entered to win a new hybrid sedan.

Of course, we’re giving away another package of Scott Naturals products again this week.

To enter, leave a comment on this post.

For extra entries, click here, and Scott Brands will donate $1 to NWF for YOU and/or take the 4-Week Test Drive Challenge, and leave separate comments telling us you did so.

The contest will end on Thursday, May 12 at 5p.m. EST and a winner will be chosen randomly.

To learn more about Scott Naturals, visit their website, “like” their Facebook page or follow #ScottNaturals on Twitter.

Good luck!

I received a package of Scott Naturals and additional compensation via this campaign through The Motherhood, but as always, the thoughts and opinions are my own!

The Horrors of the Warm-Weather Cold

Today, it FINALLY stopped raining.  Hall-LE-lu-JAH!  It has been raining cats and dogs for over a week and for a few days there I was pretty gloomy about this wet, wet, wet spring. The kids and I have hardly gotten to be outside at all so far this season!

So, today, when the sun shone, my mood REALLY brightened.  A literal light at the end of the tunnel.

And then I got a runny nose.

NOOOO!!!

You see, there is NOTHING that will spoil spring and summer more than a warm-weather cold. They are the WORST.  I would rather be sick during actual “cold and flu season” when it’s miserable outside anyways than be totally laid up with a bad cold while it’s absolutely gorgeous outside!   I even wrote a post about this a couple of years ago when both Joshua and Sophie were sick with colds the better part of July and it nearly killed ME.

So needless to say, as soon as I started feeling a little cold-ish, I ran for my medicine cabinet to see what immune system-boosting product I might have available to start chugging immediately!

But if that doesn’t work, at least I know I can get relief – even in the spring and summer – from my old pal Vicks VapoRub.  I always have it around and since it has menthol and eucalyptus in it, it’s always has that nice cooling sensation!  Nothing’s more comforting to me when I have a cold than Vicks VapoRub – no matter the season.  It really does help relieve my cough, and I always use it on my kids, too – because I have found in my experience that there is pretty much no other safe and effective cough remedy for kiddos.

And if you’re lucky enough to be spared the dreaded warm-weather cold, you can take advantage of Vicks VapoRub for it’s other intended use – if you’re out there being active and you’ve overdone it, you can rub Vicks on your sore muscles for temporary relief from aches and pains.  It’s true!

So tell me – which one do you think is worse – a cold-weather cold or a warm-weather cold?
