#doyourmakeup: New favorite makeup beauty bargains

Hola, my beauty-loving frugal ladies! As usual, I’ve been shopping the drugstores like it’s my job and I’ve found some really great products for cheapity cheap! There are some especially good sales this week so I wanted to share my deals with you so you can go out and get ’em! Here’s a few things I got this week: I haven’t tried it all yet and I don’t love everything, so I am just going to be highlighting the products I have tried out & like.

Ok, the first thing you need to know is that Wet ‘n Wild products are 40% off at Rite Aid this week and if you buy $10 worth you get $3 +UP Rewards. The second thing you need to know is there are TWO $1 off printable Rite Aid coupons at Rite Aid’s video values site (you have to watch them by Saturday, and also Saturday is the last day of the sale.) and one $1 off a mascara at their eye extravaganza site. Soo, you can get my new favorite product, Wet ‘n Wild’s MegaGlo illuminating powder (pictured here in Pink Catwalk). I love, love, love, love, love it. It is nearly as good as my fave Mary Kay highlighting powder and it retails at $3.99. With 40% off and a $1 off coupon, I paid $1.39!!! Say what?? I loved it so much I went back and bought another shade the next day. And because I bought $10 of Wet ‘n Wild total, I did get back that $3 +UP Reward. Woohoo! I’m dying to try that Wet ‘n Wild eyeshadow palette in Petal Pusher ($4.99, only $2.99 with 40% off and $1.99 with $1 off coupon!) but I haven’t tried it yet. Will report back! I love their other eye shadows that I’ve tried, though so go get some! Also! CoverGirl is BOGO 50% off at Rite Aid and you get back $2 +UP if you buy two items. There are still lots of coupons good for these items from the August P&G. Like, for instance the $3 off 2 eye products coupon. They have single eyeshadows for $3.39 so you could actually profit a penny or so if you bought two after coupons and +UP Rewards and used the coupon.

#doyourmakeup 8/26/13 #nofilter #beauty #bblogger #makeup #todaysface tried some new products today that I am loving!!! First, @physiciansformula shimmer strips eyeshadow palette in Smoky Eyes. I did a sparkling white on the brow bone, silver in the creas
In this pic I am wearing the Wet ‘n Wild MegaGlo illuminating powder on my cheeks, the Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips Smoky Eyes eyeshadow and Revlon Lash Potion mascara on my eyes.

Now, on to CVS. This week you can get Revlon products BOGO 50% off, and they are part of an ECB deal where if you buy $30 of product, you get $10 ECB. This deal included Huggies and I had coupons so I got me some diapers! Now when I went into CVS, the magic coupon machine printed me off a $4/$12 cosmetics purchase coupon, which works great with this deal! There are also $2 off Revlon foundation, powder, and BB Cream coupons on coupons.com. I bought the BB Cream (don’t love, too sheer for me, if you don’t need much coverage you might like it) and that made the Lash Potion mascara $3.49. AND I LOVE IT! The Revlon Lash Potion mascara not only comes in the prettiest packaging you ever did see, it works great! It made my lashes nice and long and it wasn’t too thick or clumpy, plus they still felt soft after it was applied. (I don’t like it when they feel like they’ve been coated in plaster.) If you aren’t into CVS-ing, this mascara is also on sale this week at Target for $4.99! It’s a great deal.

My next great CVS score was the Physicians’ Formula Shimmer Strips Smoky Eyes Eye Shadow palette. I LOVE it. I have loved this line ever since I tried it a few weeks ago, and the smoky eyes set is also great. This week if you buy and Physicians’ Formula at CVS, you get $6 extra care bucks. So I paid $11.95 for this and got back 6 ECB. A great deal for such an awesome product. (And of course, with all my extra care bucks and coupons I really paid $4-something for the Revlon, Huggies, Playtex, and Physicians’ Formula I bought. And got back like 19 ECB. WHAT UP!>!>!>??)

Anyhoo, those are some awesome beauty bargains this week! If you’re going to check out the Wet ‘n Wild deal, I also love their lip glosses, 99 cent Silk Finish lipsticks, and MegaLength mascara (also pictured above.)

Have fun shopping! And don’t forget to follow all my #doyourmakeup posts on Instagram.

#doyourmakeup Favorite Beauty Bargains

bargains collage 2

I’m having a lot of fun testing out drugstore makeup products and thanks to my coupon skillz, I can get them for quite cheap.  But some are a great bargain on their own, too. Here are some of my favorite products I’ve tried in the last few weeks that I consider to be worth every penny (but you should still try to find a coupon anyway!)

covergirl1

I find it hard to express just how much I love the CoverGirl Liquiline Blast eye liners. They go on sooo smooth and easy, and the color is vibrant. It stays on really well too. It’s a great buy! I also love the Smoky Shadow Blast in Onyx Smoke. Even if it didn’t include the black part, I’d buy it just for the white part. It’s a great highlighter for the eyelids, and also acts as a primer for the rest of your shadow. These products all retail at the drugstore for $8-ish, but CoverGirl is constantly BOGO 50% off and there are usually coupons in the P&G Brand Saver insert every month!  I got mine at CVS as a part of an ECB deal plus earned CVS Beauty Club benefits. Woot! Here’s an eye look I created using the products pictured above:

#doyourmakeup 8/4/13 #nofilter #beauty #bblogger #beautyblogger #makeup #todaysface Put on your brights! On the eyes: @covergirl black & white Smoky Shadow Blast duo. Lined upper & lower lashes with @covergirl liquiline blast eye liner in Violet Voltage,
CoverGirl Smoky Shadow Blast all over eye (white part) and in crease (black part). Liquiline Blast eyeliner in Violet Voltage on top & bottom lashline and Blue Boom on top lashline.

Next up: a brand that has always been known for value: Wet ‘n Wild.

Wet ‘n Wild Silk Finish lipstick is SUCH a good bargain. It retails for 99 cents, but I have twice recently gotten it on sale for 69 cents! Crazy! I love the way it feels on and it wears REALLY well. I really can’t believe they sell it for 99 cents! I am similarly enamored with the Coloricon blush. Only $2.99, and it is very pigmented so a little goes a long way. And it stays on my face all day. I love it! Here’s a look I used these two products on:

#doyourmakeup 8/7/13 #nofilter #beauty #bblogger #beautyblogger happy Wednesday! Eyes: @marykayus crystalline on the brow bone, an Almay silver from intense i-color quad in the crease. @covergirl liquiline blast eyeliner in Blue Boom, and @wetnwildbeauty
Wet ‘n Wild Silk Finish lipstick in Dark Pink Frost and Coloricon blush in Mellow Wine.

Finally- my new true love, Physician’s Formula.

These are the most expensive products of the lot, retailing for about $11.95 each. BUT, I bought them at Rite Aid when they were buy one, get one FREE, and each package had a $2 off coupon on it! So I got them both for $7.95 which was the DEAL OF THE CENTURY! If I wanted to do a neutral look every day (and I do the majority of the time), I would wear these products every day for the rest of my life. The Nude Eyes shadow palette has 9 colors, everything you’ll ever need to create great smoky, neutral looks. And the Kohl Kajal liner? I’m in love with it! It goes on sooo smooth and the three colors – champagne, pewter, and black, are perfect to blend together or use alone. They’re waterproof, too. Woot! Here’s an eye look I created with these products:

#doyourmakeup 8/6/13 #nofilter #beauty #bblogger #beautyblogger #makeup #todaysface easy eye today. Used @physiciansformula nude eyes palette. A light champagne color all over lid and brow bone, dark gray in outer corner of crease, and dark brown in outer
I used three of the eye colors: a light champagne all over and a dark gray & brown blended together on the outer corner. I did champagne eyeliner on bottom and pewter on the top lashline.

How to Apply and Use Lip Liner #doyourmakeup

How to use lip liner

A couple of weeks ago I did a guest post for my pal Jamie over at Blonde Mom Blog (she’s Nashville’s finest, y’all!) Check her out!) on how to use lip liner. And the whole time I was writing it I was like, I really need to share this with MY readers too!

Now, the Google gods don’t like it when you duplicate a post, so I am going to give you the same information in a different way. And without all the background info I gave Jamie’s readers about how awesome I am, since you already know that.

I think lip liner is the one cosmetics essential that is most overlooked by the ladies! I always, always, always wear it under my lipstick, but there is a right and a wrong way to do so. The right way to wear lip liner is to fill your lips in completely with the liner and then put the lipstick on top of it. If you do this, it will make your lipstick last all day (if it’s a half-decent lipstick, and I’ve tested quite a few so next post is going to be a brand comparison, I think!) Behold this explanatory visual:

Lip Liner Yes No

Trust me ladies, lip liner is your friend! Not only does it help your lipstick stay on all day, but it can also change the color of your lipstick. You can get different looks out of one lipstick tube by using a different liner underneath. See?

lipstick and liners text

Here I’ve chosen one of my very favorite go-to lipsticks, Copper Star  by Mary Kay (who, sadly, does not seem interested in paying me to say so) and two liners – netural on the left and cappucino on the right.

Before I go on, let me just say that it is not necessary to be shamefully well liner-endowed like myself. One or two colors is really plenty. If you’re going to do just one, get a neutral! You’ll be sooo happy you did. I have yet to buy any drugstore lip liners to try, but Revlon’s “nude” and “natural” are on my list of good potential neutrals.

Below you can see how using the same lipstick color atop a different liner color really changes the look.

So now you know how to use it and some fun benefits of using lip liner,  but I have one last rule of lip liner to share with you. That rule is this: Don’t buy the pencil kind! Get a retractable lip liner that you don’t have to sharpen. The wood shavings, finding a sharpener, and accidentally stabbing yourself in the mouth with a splintery liner make pencil liners more trouble than they’re worth. Please trust me.

Well, that’s my sermonette on lip liner. Are you a lip liner girl? If so, what’s your favorite kind! If not, go out and treat yourself to a neutral today!
