Dudes, this is tough!

Gratuitous cute baby picture!

I know like, many of you have more than three kids and what-not, but daaaang. I’ve never had three before.  And today my husband went back to work and my big kids are still on Christmas Break from school and it was a little crazy.   I had a good friend from out-of-town coming over at 11-ish, and it was all I could do to have the kids and myself all dressed and with clean teeth!  Fortunately, my mom came over later to help, but we were both still hopping much of the day.  She helped keep us going in the dishes and laundry department (I’m not really supposed to be doing stairs right now, much less carrying laundry up and down the stairs and our laundry is in the basement,) (also, my mom luurves our Frigidaire washer and dryer, BTW!) and we both played with the big kids, I nursed the baby, we shared diaper duty, and *shew* it was just A LOT.  I let my kids play far more Wii than they usually do (although most of it was Nickelodeon Wii Fit which TOTALLY ROCKS so at least they were getting exercise, right!?) and just tried to relax and not stress.

I am really looking forward to the big kids going back to school.  Because although to be honest, they have both been GREAT on break, it is HARD to keep them entertained all day in a way that is not a total drain on their brains.  And, they both love school and their routines.  And I need to figure out how baby Jonah fits into those routines!  How am I going to get a baby and Sophie out the door in time to get Sophie to preschool 4 days a week?  Do I carry the car seat with me when I walk her in or get him out and put him in the sling?  I guess there is going to be a lot of trial and error involved.

We’ll figure it out.  I just hope I can feel recovered and kind of figure things out before it’s “GO” time.

I am all for year-round school.

Joshua has a “fall break” of sorts yesterday and today.

And I want him to go BACK TO SCHOOL.

Because at 8:30 a.m. he’s wandering around the house with his “I’m bored” look (he doesn’t DARE say those words to me out loud), NOT playing with any of his THOUSANDS of toys, OR his sister, who by the way, would LOVE to play with him.

We need to get to the library today and check out every book you suggested yesterday!

Because right now, I am about to call my mom and figure out how she refrained from locking my brother and I in our rooms every school holiday. (Notice, Charles, I am leaving you out of this equation. Pretty sure you were not a problem.)

Oh wait, I do know. SHE GOT A JOB.  And sent us elsewhere.

Brilliant!

Perfect Day

Yesterday was just about perfect. Amazingly nice weather for late October in Ohio, my husband was home, and we actually had *nothing* planned. (That’s right people. Leave us alone. We are tired of being busy!)

So, we played!

We played out in the yard:

Hide and Seek. Sophie is counting & Joshua is dashing off to hide.
Taking a breather after a heated footrace

Then, Bobby and I decided to take the kids to a nearby church parking lot to ride bikes, since we live on a very busy street with a very bumpy sidewalk, Joshua has yet to learn to ride his two-wheeler without training wheels, and Sophie has just started to really get interested in her bike.

It was SO! Much! Fun!

Color-coordinated with the bike. Oh, yeah!

Sophie mastered her bike (thanks to her friend B for handing it down to her – Krista – don’t tell B that Joshua broke the bell! Whoops!)  and she was soooo cute and so proud of herself!

show off!

Joshua didn’t quite get all the way independent on his bike yet, but he had an awesome time and was getting really confident.  He didn’t want to leave when it was time to go.

We were all really hot, so we went to Dairy Queen after we rode bikes.  The little one by our house is a walk-up, so we had to eat outside.  Which was fine, because it was such a beautiful day!  Until all of a sudden a gale-force wind started pummeling us and we became freezing cold and our ice cream became endangered!  Sophie’s cone was practically blowing in rivulets at her face!

So, we had to abandon ship and head for home.

No worries, I took my cone with me. 🙂

So, it was nearly perfect.  We had such a wonderful day as a family! I’d just about give my arm for one like it next weekend, too.

How was your weekend?
