I officially give up

So a few days ago I wrote how my family keeps getting sick and we can’t catch a break and it’s totally HORRIBLE.

And then last week both big kids went to school on Thursday and Friday! And we had a good weekend! And they both even returned to school on Monday! Five glorious days of wellness.

And then yesterday, Tuesday, the big kids headed off to school again.

Jonah has been “sleeping in” since the time change, so he wasn’t awake when Bobby and the big kids left. After I heard him wake up, I opened the door to get my sweet  baby boy…and was greeted by the unmistakable odor of vomit mixed with diarrhea. And so much more, but I’ll do you a big fave and not describe it all for you. A lot of laundry and a bath (and he HATES his bath) ensued. Good times. And by good I mean bad.

And then of course 30 minutes after coming home from school, Sophie, who just finished her FISHING antibiotic yesterday, blew chunks with the force of 10 men. Puke-o-rama. Sophie has now been sick 3 times in 4 weeks.

I am not amused. Well, I wasn’t. Until Emily and I shared this series of text messages.

Then I was slightly amused. But soon I went back to being completely unamused and just plain pissed off that I’ve spent most of 2013 with a sore back or sick children or both.

I swear we are clean, hygenic people. I don’t know why we can’t fight off these illnesses. Tonight I went out and bought the kids probiotics – any other advice?

I’m thinking running away to somewhere tropical is my best bet right now.

This week can suck it.

So let me describe the week we’ve had in our house.

Sunday night, the dog bites Kate and busts up her lip.

Monday, Andy and Kate stay home and he takes her to the doctor for some anti-dog-cootie-biotics. Stay tuned for the complete story on that next week.

Monday night Sam throws up. (I mentioned that he did so in our bed, right? Just making sure.)

Tuesday, I stay home with Sam, and he continues to throw up incessantly. In our bed, in his bed, on our couch, on our carpet, you name it. This is why we can’t have nice things.

Wednesday, we get a crap ton of snow, so Andy and Kate have a snow day. I attempt to go to work but can’t see the actual road so I turn back. Sam continues to puke incessantly.

Thursday, I stay home again with Sam. I am starting to forget what my office looks like and I fear they are finding that I am in face dispensable. Sam continues to throw up – if anything, it’s worse and not better. Mid-afternoon I call the doc to know what signs of dehydration to look for. Sam continues to get worse, can’t keep anything down, and just lays on the couch listlessly. We finally get a few tablespoons of gatorade in him and he starts to perk up. A few hours and a lot of tablespoons later, he’s asking for something to eat. Miraculously, he keeps it all down.

However, when I go get Kate for dinner, she is sound asleep. At 7 pm. I know this doesn’t bode well.

I return to the kitchen to finish preparing dinner and the effing DOG throws up all over the kitchen floor.

At midnight, Kate throws up all over her bed.

That brings us to this morning. Sam’s finally doing better, but Kate’s got it full force now. Andy’s staying home with both of them so I can at last make an appearance at work, and we are both so tired we hardly know our own names.

It could be worse, I know. It’s only a stomach bug. And, you know, a dog bite. But my kids, my husband, my washer and I are WORN OUT. This week has SUCKED.

Next week has GOT to be better, right?

Or not.

Over/under on when this bug hits Andy and me?

Can’t catch a break

So, last week, we had a good week in this house. It was Joshua’s birthday! And we partied! And I had tons of appointments. And everything went smoothly, including Joshua’s sleepover on Friday night and Sophie’s inaugural cousins sleepover at Emily’s with Kate.

But the week  before that…was horrible. Monday the kids had school off for MLK Jr. Day and they had spent the night at my parents. When I was on my way to get them, Sophie began puking at their house. And did about every 45 minutes for the next 10 hours.

Let's just say all that puking wore her out
Let’s just say all that puking wore her out

Oh wait! Let me back up and say, on Sunday night, while the big kids were spending the night at my parents, BOBBY got sick. My poor husband. It started with him. And he puked all night, slept til 11, and then got up and went to work because of course, he is out of vacation days (they turn over in March) and gets no “sick time”. Poor man.

So anyhoo, he and Sophie had the same thing apparently.Tuesday she didn’t throw up any more but she wasn’t well.

Upchucking every 45 minutes all day will tucker a kid out
At least this looks more comfortable

Wednesday she was well and back to school! HURRAH!

Wednesday night Joshua threw up all over his bed.

I managed not to get any pictures of him. Maybe because he only puked the once.

Sophie went to school Thursday and Joshua stayed home. But he never did throw up again.

BUT!!!  Thursday night, SOPHIE (are you getting confused yet?) puked all over her bed.

Friday they had a snow day. Sophie was a bit peaked but never did throw up again. Joshua was fine.

Until the middle of the night Friday night when he…PUKED ALL OVER HIS BED!

At this point, many midnight showers have been given, scores of laundry loads have been done, and literally hundreds of fishing cuss words have been said under my breath.

Saturday, all was calm.

Sunday, we went ahead with Joshua’s birthday party, but we moved the location to my parent’s house. It was great.

It led to a great week.

Which is why, I shouldn’t have been surprised this morning when Sophie woke me up at 5 a.m. to tell me that she had puked.

But bonus, people: SHE MADE IT TO THE TOILET! This week is already starting off on a positive note.

Except she also has diarrhea. Wheeee! And a rash all over her back, stomach, and neck. Bonus!

Happy Monday from Sophie. And her barf bowl.

Happy Monday everybody! And you might want to keep your distance.
