So here it is, April 14th. Our federal and state taxes have been done for months. Our refund is sitting happily in our savings account (after being unhappily held in the IRS “error resolution department” for a month). Even our school district taxes are taken care of.
However, it wasn’t until I logged onto Facebook and saw a friend’s status update regarding her local taxes that those even crossed my mind.
As I wrote about last year, I have a long and sordid history with local taxes.
To make a long story short, I never remember to pay them. You’d think after paying for about six years all at once and even blogging about it last year, I would have had it taken care of by now, but nope… haven’t even started.
The stupid part about this is that for whatever reason the local tax form confounds me. I don’t know how a one-page document can be so complicated, but it is.
I guess I know what I’m doing tonight! Sorry, Kate, your homework is going to have to wait til tomorrow.
You are such a delinquent! G-town is gonna evict you if you don’t watch it! Pretty soon your mug shot is gonna be on the front page of the Press.

I’m right there with ya. I have been putting it off too! I hate that stupid form and inevitably I make a mistake and they send it back to me. It makes me feel totally incompetent!
Well, come on over tomorrow and we’ll see if we can figure it out together, ha ha!! I hear they don’t even fill it out for you anymore! (They really must not want us to file them at all if they aren’t gonna help, right??)
Totally agree about the form! By the time I turned mine in yesterday (with a massive check I should add) I had scribbled all over every page of mine and my husband’s trying to do it right. I figured they could deserved reading through the scribbles 🙂
Okay, I know I’m late in commenting, but seriously, wow. I feel so lucky. All we have is federal and state. We pay an annual property tax (built into our mortgage escrow account) which is where they fund the school districts from and I guess what you’re calling “local taxes” would be the 2% that our county gets from our sales tax (on top of the 5.5% the state gets) that we pay at the store. So yeah, I’d better never move away from here because there is NO WAY I would remember to pay all of those different things. Glad you remembered in advance. I remember reading the post last year and feeling the same sense of gratefulness 😉
