Savin’ at the Kroger Mega Event (and giveaway!)

If you’ve been reading this blog for awhile, you know I loooves me some Kroger. With their promotions and unlimited double coupons, I always save a bunch. So of course I was ever-so-pleased when MyBlogSpark and Kroger e-mailed me to challenge me to see how well I could do at the Kroger Mega Event sale, which runs from August 16-September 2nd. They gave me a $30 Kroger gift card from General Mills and PepsiCo to work with, too! Woohoo! Tonight I went shopping, and even though I had to take BOTH my children with me (thank you Lord for the race car carts – I would never get Sophie and my sanity through a grocery run without one) I did quite well! For ALL of our weekly groceries, I spent $47.62. Here are the Mega-Event sale items I got. When you buy 10 items, you get $5 off your order!

Kroger Mega-Event

I had coupons for ALL these items so I saved even more! Before the $5 off and my coupons, these items alone would have cost me $20.40. After the $5 off and my coupons, these 10 items cost me $9 even. Woohoo! That is a HUGE savings! (You can see this post at MommySnacks for coupon match-ups for our area.) And they are all things my family regularly eats and uses. We take brownies to our house church meeting every Sunday, so I go through a lot of brownie mixes, and I am partial to Betty Crocker! Peanut Butter Captain Crunch is my husband’s favorite. My kids love Betty Crocker fruit snacks, and we all love Fiber One bars. So this mega-event was an AWESOME one for us!

  2. My favorite thing about Kroger is that they still have someone to bag groceries! If I go by myself, I have my cart stuffed so full, I am balancing boxes on my arms as I push the cart to the register! Needless to say, when all my items are bagged, it takes 2 carts. There is always a friendly bagger to help me out to my car, and they always offer to help me load the bags in the car too! I’ve tried to get them to come home with me and put the stuff away (I even offered the last guy my daughter in trade) but they never want to do that! lol

  4. My list of reasons why I love Kroger: car carts, milk near the front of the store for quick runs, baggers, and the gas discount. The Krogers in our area also do a great job of employing the developmentally disabled, which earns the company a special place in my heart.

  5. I love Kroger, my favorite grocery by far. Love the unlimited double coupons. And the mega events are always great.

  7. My favorite thing about Kroger is their gas program. Just for having a Kroger card they give me 3 cents off the going rate. If I have 100pts (basically spend $100 at Kroger) I get an additional 5 cents off! That’s a great deal for this economy !!

  9. I shopped the Mega event yesterday and it rawked! I got five bags of Stacy’s pita chips (we love us some hummus and pita chips around here), a big bag of individual chip bags for the kid’s lunches, 2 Betty Crocker muffin mixes (I wanted brownie mixes but they were ALL GONE! Thankfully, the muffin mixes were apart of the event as well since the BC muffin mix is my preferred/fave brand!), and a box of Quaker granola bars. I watched the check-out screen and was ever so happy to see $5 instantly taken off at the very end!

  11. My favorite thing about Kroger is the Shoppers Card. My Kroger Plus Card is the most used shoppers card on my key ring, and I’ve saved so much with it.

My favorite things about Kroger are the gas discount, unlimited double coupons, super friendly employees (except the older man at uscan that snapped at my daughter for putting her hand on the scanner), and the mega events (if they are out of stuff at the beginning of the week go on Sunday and they are usually fully stocked.) I feel like I am on one of their commercials.

  15. I absolutely LOVE Kroger! My favorite thing is that they double coupons up to .50 in my area. When you combine that with their fantastic sale, it adds up to awesome savings!

    Plus their employees are very coupon friendly. That always helps when you have several coupons.

  21. I used to shop mostly at another store, but I’m finding better deals at Kroger — and it’s closer to home, and the employees are nicer. Way to go Kroger!

  24. I love that they give my kids free cookies at the back of the store so that I can bribe them through most of the shopping trip!

  25. I have many favorites, is that allowed? I really like their fresh produce sectcion. I really like that they double coupons. I don’t always feel that regular price is good, but their sales are generally pretty good. Worth the trip.

  27. My favorite thing about Kroger is that they gave me my first job as a teenager 🙂 As an adult now feeding a family of 6, I love their double coupons.

  28. I think I can sum up why I love Kroger with the following two facts:

    #1. Yesterday I came home with $140 in groceries for only $42!!!

    #2. Today, I came home with $165 in groceries for $52!!!

    Need I say more???

  36. I love the scratch-and-dent section at Kroger along with the manager’s specials-I always look for orange and yellow stickers. And I’ve trained my kids to spot them, too! Thanks!
