Birfday Recap

So, I had a really great day (despite the fact that Joshua thought that 6:40 a.m. was a good time to get Mommy up on her birthday.) On my last night of my twenties Bobby and I went out an actual date and it was really fun, and he gave me a really sweet present. When Joshua woke me up at the butt-crack of dawn, I didn’t feel any different than I had he day before! No pall hung in the air. My face didn’t look any wrinklier. I felt normal!

The day was full of well-wishes. I got several b-day phone calls, a couple cards, a zillion emails and many, many shout outs from my blogging and Maya’s Mom friends. I felt truly celebrated! My friend Luanne took me out for lunch and coffee and we had a great time eating yummy Hawaiian pizza at Dewey’s and being girlfriends. Later in the day, my mommy brought me a chocolate cake. Since my b-day was a Wednesday, I went to church as usual, as Bobby and I work with the youth group. But instead of church, my hubby had cooked up a fabulous surprise party! It was so fun! Lots of good friends were there, including Emily and her sister Anna (together we are the Supercousins! Little known fact. We, like, save people while wearing spandex.) Of course this party includes a beautiful, sparkly, “Over the Hill” tiara, black cake with a vulture, a black rose, black plates, cups, etc. Verryyyyy funny! And there were MORE presents!! From a GIANT PRINT Bible to a slew of Mary Kay products (gotta fight those wrinkles!!), the presents were GREAT. After awhile the party got a little messy and I ended up with black icing all over my nose. BUT my son didn’t puke on anyone or anything, so all in all, it was a huge success!

By the way, 30 is the new black. Woot Woot! And, I just wanted to let you all know it’s only…

What to do?

It’s 9:08 a.m. and I have NO IDEA what we’re going to do today. This fact is causing me great anxiety!

I’m feeling the pressure to make today super-fun for a multitude of reasons, not the least of which are a) it’s Monday and I’m not at work, and b) Andy and Kate are going to start school tomorrow and end their summertime routine of hanging out together all day long.

So we should definitely do something cool. But I don’t know what.

The only G-rated movie playing right now is “Ratatouille,” which we’ve already seen. So that’s out.

Um… let’s see. We could go to the local outdoor mall and let Kate play in the fountains, I suppose. There’s also a great bookstore there, and she loooves going there. So that might work… but that’s something we do quasi-often anyway.

We went shopping for school supplies yesterday (now she’s all set with her glue, paper towels. Lysol and baby wipes – how random is that list?), so that’s out… um… she doesn’t need *gasp* any more clothes…

Hmm… Well, there’s the children’s garden where Jenny takes her kids. That would be fun. It’s also the last day to use our pass to the swimming pool (which I’ve yet to enter this summer). We could go to the playground in town, or even find one nearby that we don’t go to regularly… now we’re getting somewhere.

Regardless of what we do, though, I know what I’m NOT going to be doing, and that’s staring at this computer screen.

Happy Labor Day to you all, and whether you’re having a cook-out or just chilling out, enjoy your families and the last days of summer!

P.S. Come back tomorrow to find out who was more traumatized by the first day of pre-school – me or Kate. I know where I’d place my bets!

Friday Funnies

Yesterday I had a conversation with my good friend Gina via email, and I was so amused by our little chat that I just had to share it with all of our Mommin’ It Up readers!

Gina: I was just talking to my grandmother… the one that did naked medical acting and I made the mistake of asking her what she was doing. She said, “well, I am just sitting here in my underpants with my night gown on my shoulder, about ready to get dressed when you called,” and I said “Well I bet that is a pretty sight.” And she said, “It is crazy how low a breast can hang.” And then I told her my house was on fire and I needed to go.

Emily: omg I am dying laughing. You have never mentioned the naked medical acting before.

Gina: That is because I am embarrassed that my grandma is a naked medical actor. That is part of the reason my sister chose Loyola over SIU med school because SIU is where my grandma naked medical acts.

Emily: I am cracking up, seriously. The thing about your sister is killing me. Naked medical acts. Hahahhahaha Exactly what is involved with naked medical acting?

Gina: She does medical acting at the med school and she will do acting for the gyno doctors. Some people won’t do things that require nudity. Not my grandma…she prolly likes it.

Emily: Wow. No wonder your sister picked another school. Who wants to give their own grandma a pap?

Gina: That is the grossest thought I have ever had.
