Beauty by Example (and a giveaway!)

My mother is beautiful.  She always has been.  I hope and pray I have her smooth skin and her dark hair when I am her age.  She has yet to start coloring her hair and I’ll be polite and not tell her age.  But she was almost 30 when I was born and I’m 34…sooo…

Anyway, she is beautiful.

Here we are on my wedding day.  We both look a lot different now.

wedding day with mom. March 25, 2000

(But still totally hawt, right?)

I’ve said before on this blog that my mom is the best mom ever.  And it’s true.  Really, if I can be half as good, my kids will be so lucky.  I hope I can be.  (Alas, my father is fond of telling me, “Girl, you got every bad trait I have.”  Ha!)

But my mom isn’t just a good mom.  She’s an amazing PERSON.  My mom is the true definition of a person who is beautiful inside and out.  She has shown me time and again what it means to be a servant.  She served little children as a Sunday school teacher, kindergarten and preschool teacher for years.  Now that is something that takes a loving, beautiful heart!  She still serves her children even though we are all grown up, helping us take care of our own kids when we need it, even doing driving duty when our kids have more places to be at than we can be in at one time.  She volunteers doing funeral dinners at church, making sure a bereaved family will not have to worry about feeding a crown of mourners.  She serves, and that is beautiful.

My mother is beautiful inside and out, and she has shown me beauty by example.  I hope I can do the same for my daughter.

In honor of Mother’s Day, Olay has started a “Beauty by Example” Facebook page.  If you go like their page, click on “Beauty By Example” and sign the declaration that your mom shows you Beauty by Example, P&G P&G will donate one ounce of Olay product (up to one million ounces) to look good feel better – a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the self-esteem and quality of life of women undergoing treatment for cancer.

And to keep your outside looking beautiful (because I know your hearts are gorgeous!), we’re giving away an awesome prize pack of P&G Beauty products, too so you can pamper yourself!  Just leave a comment on this post telling us how your mom has shown you beauty by example.  The winner will be chosen at 6pm on Wednesday, May 9th.  Good luck!

Happy Mother’s Day, Mom!  Thanks for showing me what beauty really is!

  1. My mom passed along to me her love of nature, gardening, and the beauty of flowers. I think gardeners are beautiful by their appreciation of and embodiment of nurturing.

    1. I wanted (and forgot) to say something about the picture of you and your mom. She exudes calmness and serenity, it’s clear to see that in that picture. (You do too). Ya’ll are both beauties! 🙂

  2. Since my mom passed away just over a year ago, I am constantly reminded of the things she did to instill beauty in everyone around her. And though it’s painful, I can honestly say that the way she lived her life even through the most difficult times was beautiful to watch. It wasn’t easy, and it wasn’t fun, but through every moment of her life (and even through the moment that she passed from this life into the next) she exuded grace and love. I can only hope to be as incredible in trials as she was.

  3. My mom is truly the best. She would drop anything at anytime to care for me or my brother or our families. She offered to quit work to watch my baby FOR FREE so I could go back to work myself. That’s just one example.

  4. My mom shows beauty by example with her servant’s heart, too! It’s probably her very best trait about her and I strive to be more like it all of the time. My mom is also a Sunday School teacher for single women and works with the children’s choir once a week. She drops everything to help me with my family when I need her to and she loves on my boys as if they were her very own children.

She’s always looking to help other people and I love that about her. My mom has a beautiful heart and I hope my kids are saying that about me when they are older, as well.

  5. She’s a great sister-in-law as well.

And, my mom, Grandma Brads, really uses Oil Of Olay and has for years.

    Living proof it works.

    UP

  6. My mom has always shown beauty by the fact that I never heard her say a negative word about her body in front of me. For that reason I always had confidence in myself because I assumed she did. Also, five years ago she went through a liver transplant. Now she tells everyone she has even more worth – the scar is shaped like a Mercedes-Benz symbol!! 🙂

  7. My mom was the epitome of beauty by example. She passed away from cancer when I was only 6, but I never remember her complaining. She always had a smile on her face and gave us her full attention. For three years, she fought an uphill battle. In the hospital, before she died, she told my dad that all he needed to do was find a mom for her girls. Could someone be more selfless? Beautiful. Inside and out.

  8. Thank you, Jenny. I follow the example of beautiful grandmothers, mother and mother-in-law.

  9. My mother shows beauty by example to me by the way she sees goodness in everyone she meets. She is a loving chrstian woman whom I can only hope I am half as good as. She has a way of making a small gesture seem like a great one. I love my mom so much!

  10. My mama is my rock. She is the one person, above any other living mortal here on earth, that I can turn to any time, day or night, and know she will be there. She may not be as active as she use to be but the encouragement she offers me is beyond measure. She is an awesome Mom, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother that is truly bless by God and by all who know and love her.

  11. My mother gave me a Godly example of beauty on the inside from a heart that loves the Lord – doesn’t get any more beautiful than that!

  12. My mother is truly beautiful both inside and out….she cares for all those around her in her nursing profession and as a wonderful person in general. She is always kind and generous to all she meets. A great example for me to follow!
